“Take urgent actions to combat climate change and its impacts”

At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Understand what it means for the climate to change, its causes and impacts on humans and animals
2. Understand the concept of global warming and its causes
3. Reflect on natural disasters and risk reduction strategies
4. Analyze digital videos on SDG13 by answering the proposed questions
5. Ideate and implement an initiative in their school to combat climate change

The department of Peten is the largest region in Guatemala, it mostly exists of forest. This means that our lands are containing a lot of wild flora and fauna. In recent years, this has changed, since nearly a hundred thousand hectares of forest were destroyed.

A reflection on the consequences we are experiencing, due to the abuse of the environment. We must change our irresponsible attitude and start actions that make a difference.

From Honduras we wish you to break the indifference and to care for your environment. Let´s start already by acting from our family or school.

So much destruction and an uncertain future but solutions do exist. It is possible to see the caatinga with a more optimistic and tender look. This biome is exclusively Brazilian.

The intention is to raise awareness among the people of the Gulf of Fonseca and the entire world about the need to preserve protected areas from pollution and the logging of mangroves, putting common interests before private interests.

I am telling this story to make the public authorities aware of their responsibility for improving the living conditions of my community. We want a place that we can admire and not one for us to criticise.
