06. Clean water and sanitation

The students of ACOHOF Family Farm School are searching the Mairin River in Tatum for mussels, tadpoles and mud fish which were once abundant in the river and are now in danger of disappearing completely.

In Bankim women and children walk ten miles or more every day to fetch water for domestic use. Drinking Water is gotten from various sources.

On 29 April 2015, hundreds of dead fish of different sizes appeared in the majestic Río La Pasión due to water contamination caused by chemical substances that had reached the river. It began from the village of Arroyo San Martín to Aldea Canaán and covered a stretch of more than 105 km along the river. This event, called and cataloged as Ecocide against humanity, affected more than 10 species of fish, as well as amphibians, reptiles, and birds. The African Palm company Repsa is accused of causing the damage.

The central market was untidy like many other markets in Benin. Illnesses were also recurrent for the users, following this bitter observation, the ideas of hygiene and sanitation were born. These efforts have resulted in a healthy market.

Some time ago, while studying, I discovered the impacts that the construction of hydroelectric power plants has on my state. We should opt for less negatively impacting means of energy production. Like solar energy, as it is clean and renewable and does not harm the environment

It is often said that water is life, but the difficulties of access to drinking water encountered by the inhabitants of the city of Lubumbashi leaves me perplexed. We call on the Congolese state to realise the seriousness of the situation and to invest massively in this sector before the situation gets out of hand.
