Kicking the soccer ball to change the community social problems

Mathata is leading a group of community young people who kick the soccer ball to reduce the social challenges like teenage pregnancy, alcohol, rape, illiteracy, drugs and substance abuse. Mathata is working for the Mogaalakwena Football for Hope Centre.

Water Crisis in South Africa

Smoke Detectors are saving lives

As part of disaster reduction team and strategy, we noticed more fire victims in townships. especially in the shack dwellings. The most victims were elderly or child headed families and differently abled people. There is not enough space between the shacks for fire fighters to  extinguish the fires. The shacks are informal settlements and the municipality can remove them from their dwellings without any notice.

My life as a Volunteer at the South African Red Cross Society

I am Baatseba. A Student and a Volunteer at South African Red Cross (SARCS)

My journey at The South African Red Cross Society began in March 2019. I joined the NGO to gain experience in the workplace through volunteering to do their Administration. However, my intentions were a seed to growth and opportunity to learning and doing more than just administration.

The Tulbagh Earthquake

The Tulbagh Earthquake is recognised as the most destructive earthquake in South African history. It struck the Ceres area at 22H03 in the evening on the 29th of September 1969. The duration of the main shock was 15 seconds. It was felt as far as Durban which is situated over 1175km away from Tulbagh, Western Cape.

Recycling and Waste Management

Waste and environmental management has been a problem for some time with people littering all over the place, polluting water, air and environment at large.  Goats and cows were swallowing plastics and papers, which made them sick.  

Nquthu Municipality is a rural Municipality situated in the Northern region of Kwa-Zulu Natal with a total number of 17 wards or regions.

Transforming young lives

As the growing number of children are losing their parents to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, devastating the social safety net of family. There are a lot of child headed households forcing young people to parent their siblings and young relatives. They sometimes do not have enough food to cater for all of them and as a result they turn to crime to feed themselves.
